Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire in Montreal's West Island is a tiny quiet town. The West Island, to those not familiar with it, is an extensive area that extends from Lachine until the west. Amanda Brugel's birthplace has been frequently mentioned, but her brief time in the city wasn't. Brugel grew up in Courtice close to Oshawa Ontario. The first goal she had was to become an expert dancer. But, a growing spurt caused her to outgrow all of the dance partners she had. A Toronto Star article revealed she's 6 feet 1 inch tall and has heels. Once I surpassed all my male partners, I stopped. Former dancers often turn to acting and in the case of Brugel, it was a suggestion by her teacher of drama. She was encouraged to try out for roles in a school production. After a few auditions the role, she was chosen as the leading lady in Anne of Green Gables. She was awarded the Fine Arts Talent Scholarship to attend York University's Theatre Program and graduated in 2000 with a bachelor's degree in Fine Arts. For the last twenty years, her work has been seen on the small and large screen. The most notable was her fame when she was offered the character of Rita in the award-winning television show The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel was the sole Canadian actor on the show in the season 1 and was only seen on occasion.
